Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 Brake Upgrade: Pre-Order Checklist

Before ordering a brake upgrade for a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra 2500HD or 3500HD, gather the details of the truck and its current brake system. This checklist helps you compare the correct application and avoid assumptions about kit contents or wheel clearance.

1. Record the Exact Vehicle Configuration

Start with the model year, Chevrolet or GMC model, drivetrain, axle configuration and single- or dual-rear-wheel setup. Check any application restrictions on the specific product. Previous axle, suspension, wheel or brake changes can affect the selection.

2. Check the Front and Rear Applications Separately

The SSBC-USA B8-Barbarian catalog separates supported GM HD front applications into 2011–2019 and 2020–2026 groups. Supported rear applications span 2011–2026, but the exact product listing determines compatibility. Do not select a kit from the truck's “2500” or “3500” designation alone.

3. Compare the Exact Kit Contents

A caliper upgrade and a rotor-equipped disc brake kit have different contents. Confirm the axle position, calipers, pads, rotor specifications and any hoses or hardware listed for the part number. A rotor-equipped kit does not automatically use a larger-diameter rotor.

4. Verify Wheel Clearance

Diameter, offset, spoke shape and barrel profile affect clearance. Review the kit-specific wheel fitment diagram with your installer or wheel manufacturer before ordering, especially with aftermarket wheels. SSBC-USA cannot confirm or verify fitment for aftermarket wheels.

5. Plan the Complete System

Decide whether you are upgrading the front, rear or both axles, then compare the options available for the exact truck. Brake condition, hydraulic compatibility and vehicle use should guide the decision. An upgrade does not increase towing capacity or replace functioning trailer brakes and a properly configured controller.
